Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi, has entered the laptop market in India with the launch of the much awaited, Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition. Famous for its smartphones in the Indian market, this is the first set of laptops released by the company.
The launch happened on an online-only event, which was streamed on Xiaomi social media channels and Youtube.
Rumours spread that the upcoming Mi laptop will be the rebranded versions of the RedmiBook 14, which is already available in China. However, shutting all the rumours, Xiaomi announced the launch and released Mi Notebook, India will be the first country to get this edition.
Vice President, Xiaomi Global, and Managing Director for Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain tweeted a teaser video of the mi laptop’s horizontal display feature and also mentioned the laptop comes with, “highest screen to body ratio you would have ever seen”.
The Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition is a 1.35 kg ultra-light laptop with a 14-inch, full HD, immersive Horizon Edition.
Official Mi Notebook will come in two variants of mi notebook one powered by Intel i5 10th generation process another has Intel i7 10th generation processor. The notebook has a powerful 8GB DDR4 RAM and ultra-fast 512GB SSD storage. It has an Nvidia GeForce MX350 graphics card, enough to meet all casual gaming and video editing needs.
Xiaomi executives including India along with head Manu Kumar Jain started posting photos of the box of Mi Notebook Horizontal Edition after announcing the launch last week.
The company launched multiple variants of mi notebook with different processors and RAM amounts. These variants will help the company to capture different customer segments.
Battery life is an important selling point for laptops in the Indian market, Xiaomi claims Mi Notebook will have “Epic Battery” which will last for 12 hours.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic work from home has become the new reality for the Indian service sector. Xiaomi is entering the laptop market at the right time when laptop sales are expected to grow and the current work from home scenario will continue a few more months. The new product will be available in all its offline and online stores.
Xiaomi is also offering a home delivery option for its new products to mitigate the pandemic effect on sales.
Xiaomi will now compete with the existing big players in the laptop market such as Lenovo, HP, Dell and many more. Indian households are now buying laptops for children at a young age, all thanks to the Indian purchasing power parity which surpassed France and the United Kingdom recently.
Xiaomi entered the Indian market in 2014 with its Mi 3 smartphone that sold like a hot cake. Later on, the company released Mi TV, Mi Air purifier, Mi Router, Mi Headphones tasted success in all these markets. Mi Laptops will follow the same path considering the craze company has in India.
