A new report reveals that users’ preference for searching and browsing as per their needs has increased on the search engine DuckDuckGo. This search engine focuses on data privacy and the security of browsing preferences of its users.

Privacy has been one of the most discussed topics of our times – as the dominance of the digital age grows, our lives have been penetrated by digital behemoths who are keeping an eye on our movements. This sort of deep surveillance has affected our lives so much that now even various messaging and social media platforms are controlling the type of content that is being shown to us on such platforms.

With the growing digital footprint today, people are now much aware and at the same time concerned about their privacy and security. This is why issues regarding personal data and cybersecurity have become a vital narrative not only in India but across the world.

Following that, a new report reveals that users’ preference for searching and browsing as per their needs has increased on the search engine DuckDuckGo. This search engine especially focuses on data privacy and the security of browsing preferences of its users through its stringent policies regarding it. Therefore, there has been a 62 percent increase in the number of daily searches in 2020.

This data regarding user searches claim that people are now preferring to hinder clever data-tracking tactics by several famous search engines and internet platforms. As a consequence of it, user traffic has increased substantially on search engines like DuckDuckGo.

What is DuckDuckGo?

DuckDuckGo is a search engine used for searching various data pertaining to articles, videos, music, and other multimedia content. It was founded in 2008 and since then its popularity has grown while making a much wider reach among the users. DuckDuckGo was named after the children’s game duck, duck, goose.

Unlike various popular search engines like Google and Yahoo, DuckDuckGo strictly swears by its policy of not collecting any user data in its databases for further usage pertaining to the expansion of its reach among the users. The search engine also adheres to its rule of not collecting user data such as IP addresses, location, and user logs while sometimes resorting to the usage of cookies in case of absolute need.

The company has reiterated that their policy does restrict their ample scope of generating revenues but it did help them to build a sense of trust among its users as far as privacy policy is concerned. In the span of 13 years, for the first time the search engine has achieved a milestone of more than 100 million searches but its market share remains abysmally low at 0.45 percent.

Apart from that, the company’s aim is not to outmaneuver internet giants such as Google but to provide a safe tracking-free environment to the users without any fear of being watched or any type of surveillance – so that users can freely browse and search using its platform. This is what surely makes DuckDuckGo stands out from the crowd.

Besides being a search engine, DuckDuckGo is easily available as an application based on iOS and Android along with being available as a Google Chrome extension. Currently, more and more people are preferring search engines like Qwant, Startpage, DuckDuckGo, and many like these which claim of not accumulating the user data.
