Every year, tech companies release a new set of emojis which helps us to communicate our thoughts with friends and family. In 2020, both iPhone and Android users will get new emojis, of which some may soon be available in the beta versions of iOS14 and Android 11.

On the World Emoji Day, July 17, Google and Apple announced a new set of emojis for their operating systems. At present no date has been announced regarding the launch, it is expected the addition of emojis will come later this year.

Google will add 117 emojis from Emoji 13.0 and Apple will release 13 emojis, approved by Unicode Consortium.  The Unicode Consortium approve will help emojis can be used on both iPhone and Android devices.

Apple unveiled 13 emojis that will be added to its new iOS 14 operating system. They are the Italian Hand, a gesture used by many Italians which stands for “What do you want/mean?”. It also added a realistic heart and lungs, ironically these emojis reflect the present novel coronavirus pandemic which affects the lungs most.

 The iOS 14 will also add a transgender symbol, Japanese ninja, tapioca milk tea, a new boomerang, Russian Matryoshka doll, the dodo bird, a coin, and pinata. During the Apple WDC event news of a new colored face mask option for emojis was announced.

Google’s new set of emojis for its Android 11 is huge. Of the new 117 emojis, 62 are new characters with 55 skin tone and gender variations. Emojis look will vary according to different operating systems. Some emojis are redesigned so they look good in the dark mode.

The new set of emojis includes smiling faces, two people hugging, person feeding baby. Other emojis include the heart, lungs, long drum, pinata, tamale, boba tea, and teapot.

Google is working with Monterey Bay Aquarium and Victoria Bug Zoo for a makeover to animal emojis in order to give them a “more authentic look”. Bison, beaver, and polar bear are the new addition.

In a press note, Apple claimed that the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch users will get the new set of emojis later this year. However, rumors suggest that iPhone devices with iOS 14 update, will get the new emojis.

Apple announced new emojis with different colors and face masks options which can be used as stickers by users. Addiotnallu, Apple may announce a new method on its devices to create emojis by users with their own look. 

New set of emojis on both Google and Apple devices will be available in September this year.
