Gujarat, June 16: Gujarat has witnessed 3 earthquakes in 24 hours. After an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on Richter scale(RS) jolted the state on Sunday evening, another one of magnitude 4.4 on RS hit the Rajkot region on Monday afternoon. Following this, a third earthquake occurred of magnitude 4.1 on RS in Gujarat’s Kutch region near Bachau.
The residents felt numerous aftershocks of the continuous seismic activities. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said, “A 3 earthquakes in 24 hours of 4.4 magnitudes on the Richter scale hit 83 km northwest of Rajkot, Gujarat 12:57 pm on Monday.”
The Kutch region of Gujarat falls under a very high-risk seismic zone. The horrific Bhuj earthquake in 2001 had killed over 13,000 people in the district. It had a high magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale. It affected over 1.5 Lakh people and caused great infrastructural damage as well.
