The Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) 2021 took place on Sunday evening. The previous year’s Billboard Music Awards took place in October, delayed due to the pandemic. This year the BBMAs was hosted by Nick Jonas live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and aired on NBC.
The achievers of these awards are considered to have made considerable success on the Billboard charts from March 21, 2020, through April 3, 2021. BMA finalists and winners “are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data,” the publication said in a news release.
Highlights
The Weeknd – was nominated for 16 categories and smashed the billboard by winning an iconic 10 trophies, including the biggest award of the night, for Top Artist. In addition to this, he took home the titles of Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Radio Song, Top R&B Song. The Weekend also performed hi snew song “Save Your Tears”
BTS – Like always they were the show stoppers of the evening. They enthralled everyone with their performance of their new single ‘Butter’. They won all the categories they were nominated for; Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Social Artist (Fan Voted), Top Selling Song
Pop Smoke – The late artist, Pop Smoke, who died due to a gunshot wound in his torso, on February 21st this year, won Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Rap Album for his new album Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon. His mother, Audrey Jackson, accepted the award on his behalf, telling the audience, “Thank you for honouring my young warrior.”
Bad Bunny – Latin hearth throb, Bad Bunny also bagged himself four awards — Top Latin Artist, Top Latin Male Artist, Top Latin Album, and Top Latin Song.
Pink won the Icon Award, presented by Jon Bon Jovi on Sunday evening. She performed a string of her best-known songs, from “Just Like a Pill,” “Get the Party Started,” to “So What.” Her aerial performance of her new single, “Cover Me in Sunshine,” with her daughter, Willow moved everyone.
